Spring is in the Air Test
Back in May, an IG friend of mine, Shannon @sf.designs (blog) put out a tester call for a cute little baby quilt she had whipped up to showcase a new floral fabric line. She allowed me to tag along, so I jumped right in!
The design uses all of the fabrics from a new line, but being me, my first thought was to limit the color palette a bit (I might still try this!). That lasted approximately 30 seconds until I saw that Joann's fat quarters were on killer sale, so I curated the 12-FQ bundle to scratch the cutesy print itch I generally otherwise ignore. I paired it white and made the top in a weekend! Shannon wasn't entirely sure if a FQ bundle would work, and for the strip-pieced corner triangles, it is close. However, it worked, and my measurements came out at a perfect 40"x40", so I would heartily recommend it if you don't have yardage that you want to use.
I had a lot of fun quilting this one! I used my walking foot, and the curves were shallow enough for the most part that it worked really well. I liked breaking out of my echoing/straight lines, and I think it fills in the negative space pretty well! The bindings were scraps, and the backing below was improv-pieced from leftover strip-pieces and background.
It was so much fun to tinker around with the backing, and I really like the geometric-y modern look with the traditional flowery quilting. Now I just need an excuse to gift it to someone! If you want to make your own (which I totally recommend), you can download pattern on etsy! Spring is In the Air.
